Hypnosis For Weight Loss?

I recently met with a friend who had consulted a hypnotist to help him to lose weight. I had shared with him my attempts to use Fast 5, starting January 2nd, and he was happy to tell me about his visit to the hypnotist. After listening to him, and having heard about others who have used hypnotists to stop smoking, I honestly don't know why it wouldn't work for both, if you believe it can work. In America, where most people are well fed, our problems have to do with figuring out what and when to eat. We have to develop the mental fortitude to eat with purpose and not out of habit or boredom. The advice he got from the hypnotist struck me as a few sets of methods, tools, and processes to do exactly this. She advised him not to eat in his office; to sit in a cafe or in a public space when he eats. She advised him to take some time regularly during the day remind him to focus on his goals. She gave him some tools for doing this. She reminded him to believe himself and gave him some tools for doing this. Everything I heard sounded good. I have blogged about mental tips and tricks for accomplishing your weight loss or maintenance goals. Hypnosis for weight loss seems a little like a term I discussed on a blog post, “getting in flow”. Getting in Flow is a term that means people are engaged in absorbing, satisfying, activities that cause them to forget themselves, lose track of time and stop worrying. Activities that will help you to ignore those temptations to eat, when we are not really hungry.   Hypnosis sounds similar in some ways, and I wouldn't rule it out, if I weren't having so much fun w/Fast 5 now.

One thing you learn if you browse Amazon for weight loss books, even for very successful books you will find negative reviews.  This book, I Can Make You Thin, The Revolutionary System Used By More Than Three Million People is pretty popular.  At the time of my posting it has 41 3 star or below reviews yet has two hundred and six 1 star or 2 star reviews.  Reading the negative reviews tells me that different methods work for different folks, and they while certain methods may work at one time in your life, they may not work at another time.  I will continue to investigate and write about mental tips we can use to help us control what we eat. So don't lose hope! Keep looking and trying different things.

Another tip for the week:

Buy juicy fruit sugarless gum for those sweet cravings. This form factor is candy coated, like Chiclets. Talk about a blast from the past, and something that can satisfy a sweet tooth.
